Twin Oaks Family Newsletter ~ 3.4.2019
Dear Twin Oaks Families,
What a snow storm! It certainly took us by surprise. The phone and internet systems at Twin Oaks are still not functioning. We have been told that it should be restored on Wednesday. We are able to receive incoming phone calls, however we cannot send or receive emails and we cannot make phone calls. We will send an email to families when our systems are back up and running. This has been a challenge for the staff as we do much of our work via the internet. I went to work this morning planning on sending this newsletter early in the day. Thank you for your patience.
Our students missed 4 instructional days as a result of our Snow Days. Plans are being discussed on how we will be making up the required instructional time as designated by the Oregon Department of Education. As soon as the proposal has been approved by the Eugene 4J School Board information will be shared with the community.
We still have quite a bit of snow around the Twin Oaks property. Roger worked very hard every day last week shoveling snow as well as continually monitoring our electricity and the generator. We are very grateful for his dedication to our building and the safety of our students and staff. He is quite amazing! We are thankful to the many 4J employees who worked throughout the snow storm plowing, shoveling, repairing damaged property and removing downed trees.
When the mornings are cold as it was this morning, the snow turns into ice. Please be very careful if you are walking or driving in our parking lots.
CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE WEEK: This week is National Classified Employee Week. This is the perfect time to recognize and honor our incredible support staff at Twin Oaks Elementary. They are the people who make “schools work” so students can learn. They make sure our buildings are clean and are maintained so that our students are healthy and safe. They make sure that children are safe and playing cooperatively on the playground. They make sure that that they are fed nutritious, tasty meals. They make sure students arrive safely to school and home again on the school buses. They support instruction, the library and the office. We have made plans to honor our Classified Employee Staff all week. If you have the opportunity please share your appreciation.
READ-A-THON: The Read-a-thon has been rescheduled to March 11th-14th. Due to the snow and our days out of school we were unable to get the Read-a-thon organized. Reading logs and pledge sheets will be coming home with your child(ren) on Friday. Thank you in advance for supporting this fundraiser organized by our very dedicated TOSA group.
DICKIE JO’S & DICKIE YO’S Fundraiser: Another TOSA fundraiser is happening this week. This is an easy one. Have Dickie Jo’s make your dinner on Wednesday or Thursday. All you have to do is bring the flier and give it to the restaurant when you pay. Dickie Jo’s will donated 25% of every purchase.
