Twin Oaks Elementary
Family Newsletter
April 4, 2022
Dear Twin Oaks Families,
Kindergarten Information Night: Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 5th at 6:00pm we will be hosting our Twin Oaks Elementary Kindergarten Information Night via Zoom. If you have an incoming Kindergartner please join us. If you have a friend or neighbor with a Kindergarten aged child we would appreciate it if you would share this information with them. Click here for the Zoom link.
KITS - Kids in Transition to School: KITS is free and open to all incoming Kindergarten students! All interested families are encouraged to apply. Families will be notified about the status of their application by the start of June. KITS is a 2 hour program and will run 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from June 28, 2022 through August 18, 2022. Registration information is included in this newsletter.
TOSA Fundraiser: We have a fundraiser scheduled for this month at Hot Mama's Wings. On Tuesday, April 12th, Hot Mama's Wings will donate 15% of the total bill to our school. You will need to show them a printed flyer or digital image. Our April TOSA Meeting is also on Tuesday, April 12th, 7:00-8:00pm.
OBOB School Battles: Congratulations to the Twin Oaks OBOB Teams for their outstanding performance during the school OBOB battles. There were 32 students in 7 teams who read 16 designated books throughout the school year. The students showed their knowledge of book titles, authors and details of the story as they competed against each other. I was very impressed with the teamwork and dedication. The students supported each other and the other teams. The final battle was between the Book Bugs and the Goldenbooks. It was very close but the Book Bugs finished the competition as the OBOB Champions for our school. I want to thank Ms. Sydney Morrison, 3rd/4th grade teacher, who coordinated OBOB for the Twin Oaks students. It took time and organization. She met with the students weekly; organized the competition; made t-shirts for the teams and helped them celebrate at the end.
Read-A-Thon Update: The Twin Oaks' Read-a-Thon officially ended on March 31st. We do not know the exact results but according to Kim Strohman, Read-a-Thon coordinator, I am going to be kissing a pig or will be green slimed by the students. I am looking forward to learning how the students vote (kind of)! The students read and read and read, surpassing their reading goal. Twin Oaks families and friends donated generously. We earned enough funds to purchase the book vending machine as well as money for a lot of books.
Forums and Training on Suicide Intervention: Tragically there have been many families and communities in Lane County affected by suicide and loss in the recent months. The Twin Oaks staff will be participating in professional development on how to support our students' mental health and wellness. There are three trainings in April available to families. I have included the flyers in the newsletter. I am committed to sharing resources so we better understand how we can support our students and our community.
Wishing you a wonderful week!
Ms. Denisa Taylor
