Hello, Twin Oaks Families!
Welcome back to another amazing year at Twin Oaks Elementary School! We've been hard at work getting the building cleaned, prepped and ready to welcome back staff, students and families.
We've had a few building maintenance and upgrade projects over the summer. All of the blacktop areas were resurfaced and repainted, they look great! Last spring contractors began the air conditioning upgrade from the bond, we're waiting on shipping of the final electrical panels to complete that upgrade. Fingers crossed all of the parts come in soon!

KINDERGARTEN: First day of school is Tuesday, September 8th, 7:55-1:10.
GRADES 1 – 5: First day of school is Wednesday, September 9th, 7:55-1:10

The calendar is a little different this year, please take a minute to review the no school days, breaks and holidays.
Kindergarten Smart Start
In order to best serve our Kindergarten students, 4J has created a Smart Start schedule. This schedule allows for smaller groups of student to be in the building so that we can get to know them a little better and provides an opportunity for families to meet with the kindergarten teacher one on one at the start of the school year. The 4J Smart Start schedule is based on your last name:
- All Kinder Students Attend: Sept. 8, 9, 14, 15, 16
- Only Last Name A–L: Attend Thursday, Sept. 10
- Only Last Name M–Z: Attend Friday, Sept. 11
- No Kindergarten Sept. 17 & 18: Parent/teacher conversations
Mark your calendar for our Kindergarten Popsicles on the Playground playdate Thursday, Sept. 3rd from 4:30-5:30pm. This is a great opportunity for kindergarten families to meet, see the classroom, meet the teacher and play on the playground. We hope that you can make it.

School Supply Fee and Backpack & Water Bottle
Twin Oaks is requesting that families paying a $40 supply fee for school supplies (CLICK HERE TO PAY). This fee allows teachers to purchase the necessary school supplies they need for their classrooms before the start of the school year and throughout the year to support the curriculum they have planned. Payment Options: This fee can be paid in full all at once or spread out throughout the school year. If this fee will be a hardship to your family, please contact school secretary Ms. Jenna via email at hoagland_j@4j.lane.edu or 541-790-3417.
Visit the 2026-2027 School Supply Fee Webpage to take care of your supply fee, and plan on sending your child(ren) to school with a backpack (no wheels) and a water bottle. Your child's teacher may have a few other small supply requests that they'll share once school starts, but we will use these funds to purchase pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, and other basics. We always appreciate donations of snacks, glue sticks, copy paper, tissues, and zip style bags in all sizes.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your student to view their new classroom and introduce themselves to their new teacher and classmates, then enjoy a popsicle on the playground! We can't wait to see you!
How do I find my child's bus stop?
4J's Transportation Department has a system for finding your child's bus stop and times.

Go to the 4J District Website, select "Families," then "Transportation,” then "Bus Stops & Routes," then follow the directions to sign up for a My Ride K-12 account.

No Phones, Smartwatches, or Electronics at School
4J has adopted a policy of no electronics at school, bell-to-bell. Electronics (phones, smartwatches, tablets, etc.) are to be turned off and put away during school hours. If staff see electronics out during school, staff will:- 1st Offense: Student receives a warning, item asked to be put away in backpack.
- 2nd Offense: Phone/Electronic goes to office for rest of the day.
- 3rd Offense: Parent meeting required. Device checked in at the office daily

The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property brought to school. These items are best left at home.
Morning Breakfast
Breakfast service begins at 7:30 in the cafeteria and ends at 7:50. Students wanting breakfast may walk to the cafeteria. When they finish eating, they should wait in their designated grade-level areas. Students arriving late should check in at the office and will receive a grab-and-go breakfast. Doors close at 7:55, and any students arriving after that need to check in at the office before going to class.There will be some grace during the first week of school, but starting the first full week of school, all doors will close promptly at 7:55.
Student Attendance and Tardies
One of the most reliable predictors of school success is regular attendance. Absences for any reason result in lost instructional time. We know that students who fall behind often become discouraged learners. We hope to work together to encourage your child's regular attendance and academic success at school. We understand that there are many factors in your lives that make it difficult, at times, for your child to be in school or on time. However, it is essential that we collaborate with you to reduce these to an absolute minimum. Class activities start promptly in the morning. This morning class time is one of the most important times of the day. When a child comes in late, not only have they missed valuable class time, but it is also disruptive to their classmates.When your child will be late or absent from school, please call the office at 541-790-3417 before 8:15 a.m. to inform the office staff. You may leave a message on the voicemail if calling before office hours. Please leave the name of your child, their teacher's name, and the reason for the absence. The district will also be moving toward attendance reminders on Parent Square. You'll be able to report your students absence on the app, or message Ms. Jenna.

Volunteer Background Check
Interested in volunteering? Be sure to fill out the 4J Volunteer Background Check so you can join in on the fun! 4j volunteer background checks are valid for two years, if you need to check in on the status of your volunteer application, call the office: 541-790-3417
YMCA After School Care
Twin Oaks partners with the YMCA After School program for after school care.
Update Your Child's Health Information
Ensure your child's health records are current. We want to be aware of respiratory-based diagnoses, allergies, or other health conditions. Linked here are the Asthma Assessment Form and the General Medical Profile Form, which you can email or deliver to front office staff.FREE Breakfast & Lunches
All students will be provided with a "one time through" free breakfast and lunch. No paperwork is necessary. Seconds of milk and the main course are an additional fee this year and students/families will be billed at the end of each month. We understand that this is a new system for all of us. We'll work together to make sure students are fed and families feel supported. As we get more information from the Nutrition Services department we'll be sure to share with families. For students with nut allergies, we offer a Nut-Free Table in the cafeteria. Students may bring a friend with them to the Nut-Free Table if the friend has a school-provided meal, which is always nut-free.Messages for Students

We're happy to get a note to your student or your student's teacher. If your student's go home plan changes for the day, please communicate to the office as soon as possible. This helps us insure the classroom teacher is aware of the change.
Student Information Available to Non-Custodial Parents
Twin Oaks Elementary is able to provide all co-custodial or non-custodial parents with a duplicate copy of all district-labeled mailings. Please let the school office know if you would like the name of a co-custodial or non-custodial parent added to the student's enrollment information.Project HOPE Registration Begins August 24th !

Families with students enrolled in Eugene School District 4J can begin registering online on Monday, August 24, starting at 7 a.m., for this year’s Project Hope back-to-school events.
Project Hope provides students with new athletic shoes, socks, backpacks filled with school supplies, and other resources at no cost to help students begin the school year ready to learn.

What Families Need to Know
Registration opens Monday, August 24, starting at 7 a.m.
Participation is by appointment only, and appointment times fill quickly.
Each registered student must be present at their scheduled appointment time. Parents and caregivers do not need a separate appointment.
To help us serve as many 4J students and families as possible, each student may participate at one Project Hope location only.
Please arrive at your scheduled appointment time—not earlier—so organizers can provide a welcoming and streamlined experience for all families.
